Pontoon: Floating Champagne Bar Opens In London

As London’s al fresco venues jostle for position this summer, one company have created a unique location for the city’s revellers to party outdoors.

Situated in St Katherine Docks, a vibrant Marina in the heart of historic London, Pontoon is London’s first ever floating Champagne and seafood bar. Pontoon is the brainchild of pop up restaurants and events company P.U.R.E.

The 5-berth yacht can hold up to 80 guests for private parties and drinks receptions, with luxury brands including Relais & Châteaux, Wine Story and Pommery providing on-board hospitality.

A classic motor yacht built in 1975 by Camper & Nicholsons, Pontoon has been updated with high-end fittings, including a natural wood terrace and luxurious lounge.

Open daily from 9am until midnight, guests can enjoy a drinks menu that includes Pommery Champagne and a diverse range of seafood dishes including oysters, whole crabs, langoustines and scallops, as well as spit roasted meats.

The venue will also play host to weekly wine and seafood tastings, salsa dancing classes, live Jazz music performances and weekend DJ nights.

London’s May Fair Hotel Launches “150” Champagne Experience

May Fair Hotel has recently launched a new Champagne initiative called “150”, named after the measurement of a magnum of champagne.

The 5-star hotel, located in the eponymous May Fair district in London’s West End, has created the service in partnership with Moët Hennessy UK.

Under the new offering, guests can enjoy premium magnums of vintage champagnes paired with a menu of small plate dining from the hotel’s Chef Patron Silvena Rowe.

Hotel General Manager, Anthony Lee, said: “The May Fair has always been a high profile place and the place to be seen.”

The idea behind “150” is to provide an exclusive experience by offering magnum bottle service of premium champagne paired with a carefully selected menu by Chef Patron Silvena Rowe.

Amongst the lavish food and champagne combinations are the Dom Pérignon Vintage Rosé 1998 for 12 guests, featuring four magnums of Dom Pérignon coupled with four canapés for each guest, priced at £4,400.

Royal Wedding Champagne Revealed

Amid feverish speculation about which Champagne will be served at the Royal Wedding next week has been revealed through authorities – Pol Roger NV will be served.

Apparently a non-vintage Pol Roger has been specifically been requested by The Palace.
It will be sipped before the dinner which will be prepared by Anton Mosimann and hosted by Prince Charles.

Pol Roger has had a long and honourable association with British aristocracy. It has been the favourite Champagne of Sir Winston Churchill (1984 Pol Roger created the Cuvee Sir Winston Churchill in his honour).

Traditionally, however, Pol Roger has not been on the table at royal weddings. Queen Victoria issued a royal warrant to Bollinger in 1884, and Prince Charles chose it both for his stag party and for his marriage to Lady Diana Spencer in 1981.

The Next Question Is – Who will do the first toast to the Bride and Groom? Any guesses?

Searcys Rolls Out Champagne Bar: One New Change

Searcys has recently rolled out its latest Champagne Bar One New Change, which is located in the St Paul’s shopping district. Overlooking St Paul’s Cathedral Bar One New Change can accommodate up to 100 guests and will host an extensive Champagne list including over 30 varieties by the flute and over 100 cuvées by the bottle.

The champagne list aims to celebrate the seasons and all styles of Champagne are expected to be represented; features include tasting flights, vintage profiles, rare vintages as well as the theatrical decanting of Champagne.

Champagne will also be matched with fine foods, namely tapas style “plates” such as foie gras and green peppercorn terrine or smoked tuna with almonds.

Michelle Cartwright, the Searcys Champagne Bar concept development manager, said: “To be part of such an exciting launch is a privilege and Searcys is proud to present a bar in such a great retail development.”

Searcys operates at a number of iconic locations, including 40/30, St Pancras Champagne Bar, Westfield Champagne Bar, the Portrait Restaurant at the National Portrait Gallery and the Hurlingham Club.

Searcys plans to launch a further five Champagne Bars in 2011 at various transport hubs and retail outlets.

London: Searcys Second Champagne Bar Opens in One New Change

The upmarket restaurant operator Searcys plans to open their new champagne bar “One New Change” in a few weeks!

This is the second launch this year for Searcys Champagne Bar brand, and their spokesperson states they plan on launching five more in 2011, to be found in and around transport hubs and retail outlets.

Due to open on 30 March, the Champagne Bar at One New Change will comfortably seat 100 guests and will sell over 30 varieties by the glass, with over 100 different cuvees by the bottle including traditional method sparkling wines.

Stylish Indulgence

The company, which was bought in an £8m management buyout last year, says its Champagne Bar concept is based around “stylish indulgence”, which it says works well in its existing sites.

Searcys last year expanded the capacity of its Champagne bar in London’s Westfield shopping centre from 36 to 72 covers by taking over the adjacent area, saying that “affordable luxury” was still popular in the UK despite the austere economic times.

Design

The new site, a ceiling-to-floor glass case, was designed by Interbar. Its “plush armchairs”, marble bar and warm copper and brown tones target a “retro1970s chic” atmosphere.

Food

Tapas-style food will also be available to match with champagne, such as Foie Gras and green peppercorn terrine or Smoked Tuna with almonds.
