Sandrine Chamfrault appointed Director of the Wine Syndicate of Graves Wines

Sandrine Chamfrault has recently been appointed Director of the Wine Syndicate of Graves Wines. Originally from Bordeaux, Sandrine and began her career in communication agencies, before joining the French Rugby Federation as part of the World Cup in 2007. In 2008, she became a consultant partner in an audit firm, then joined Château Marquis de Terme in 2013 with the mission of developing the tourism, communication and marketing division.

As Director of the Syndicat Viticole des Graves, Sandrine Chamfrault aims to support the marketing of Graves wines and to increase its visibility in France and internationally, as well as its brand’s digital presence.

“I want to premiumize the perception of Graves, which are quality wines, well rated, and which offer a wide variety of choices. I will continue the substantive work-initiated years ago to create a strong identity for the wines of Graves. The Syndicate has a role of network animation, it is an entity which must become essential, which federates the local ecosystem, must be a driving force and an example for the members. I have always had this desire to carry out a collective project, which is why I am delighted to join the Syndicat Viticole des Graves” explains Sandrine Chamfrault.

New Direct Line from London to Bordeaux to Launch in 2026

The “wine train” a new direct train line launching in 2026 will transport you from London to Bordeaux in just five hours!

Currently, anyone making the journey will need to get a flight or two trains: the Eurostar from St Pancras to Paris’ Gare du Nord and a TGV service from Paris’ Montparnasse station to Bordeaux.

A spokesman for HSI, which operates the UK Eurostar route, said there was a “clear demand” for a direct train route from London to Bordeaux, and said they were aiming to begin in 2026.

The direct train is still in the planning stages. The new direct train line is also expected to pave the way for future wine trains. This is the ultimate aim from HSI chief exec Dyan Crowther (behind the UK leg of the Channel Tunnel railway line), is hoping to open a series of new routes from 2026 in a bid to offer lower carbon emission alternatives.

Bordeaux Index Launches Ultimate ‘Advent Calendar’ 12 Casks of Christmas

Since December 1, 2022 Bordeaux Index has been revealing a new cask for sale each day, which is available to purchase through a sign-up link on a first-come, first-serve basis.

The casks are selected from Bordeaux Index’s own current collection, with each day’s offering revealed by email for those who sign up.

If you’re interested in expanding your cask portfolio, this is a perfect and novel opportunity to do so as part of the ultimate ‘advent calendar’.

“Each day we will be revealing a new cask which will be available to buy through our dedicated sign-up form above. Every morning for 12 days, an email will go out revealing the cask, with everyone having access to purchase on a first come first serve basis,” a Bordeaux Index representative states.

Women in Wine Talks with Marie-Laurence Sanfourche, Propriétaire du Château Loupiac-Gaudiet

Château Loupiac-Gaudiet dates to the 15th century and has been owned by the Ducau family since the 1920’s. The wine estate is located in the village of Loupiac, above the Garonne River in Bordeaux, and directly across from the famous appellations of Sauternes and Barsac.

Château Loupiac-Gaudiet benefits from southern exposure and has been in the family for five generations. The wine comes from manual harvest with vines that are over forty years old. Covering an area of 30 hectares, the wine estate produces both sweet white wine and red Bordeaux.

Marie-Laurence Sanfourche joined her husband Marc Ducau in 1991 by taking over the commercial and administrative roles of the company. In 2014, their son Nicolas joined the family business.

Who is Marie-Laurence Sanfourche and tell us a little about your history.

This is an old family business – at the end of the 18^th century, the Chateau was built. It has been the property of the Sanfourche and Ducau families since 1920, when the Ducau’s combined Chateau de Loupiac with their own vineyard, Guadiet, to create Chateau Loupiac Gaudiet.

When I met my husband, I married the man, not the chateau. In 1991 I started to work with my husband and my uncle. My uncle was the soul of the chateau… he passed away at 93.

I now have the commercial role, which is dealing with the export markets as well as the general administration of the business. Our largest markets are China and USA, I also work with wine merchants in Bordeaux. My son is the fifth generation and he also works in wine sales and exports. My husband (on the other hand) is the winemaker.

Who were your mentors in the industry?

My uncle and my father (both) taught me. I was very often in the vineyard to learn, even when I was a student. They both loved their job and they communicated that love and the hard part of their work….little by little..they taught me.

Do you have a message for other women in wine in your particular role?

Marie-Laurence Sanfourche
When I first started and received clients they (the clients) would say oh it’s a woman ….now it’s different. It’s changed a lot since then and it’s much easier.

I find that women communicate differently, and they are more open.

The future is certainly bright for women in the industry, what are your comments?

Marie-Laurence Sanfourche
Women will be more and more important…. Wine is a question of sensitivity, philosophy, and tasting …… wine speaks to us women.

The personality of the wine and the owner are the same (I believe).

In your personal wine collection, what would we find?

(I collect) Spanish wines, and wines from California and Australia.

What is your favorite food and wine pairing?

For me, I like stronger older Comté or Roquefort cheese paired with and sweet wine.
