Wine Review: Domaine Sébastien Magnien, Vieilles Vignes, Hautes Côtes De Beaune 2017

Domaine Sébastien Magnien, Vieilles Vignes, Hautes Côtes De Beaune 2017

This old-vine Burgundy calls for wine tasting on a Vintage Boat on a beautiful summer day in Ontario!

Tasting Notes:
This Pinot Noir is made from the fruit of a single vineyard (La Dalignère); is richer and more powerful than Sebastien’s other Hautes Côtes wines. 100 % Pinot Noir, 55 years old vines planted by Sebastien’s grandfather. I’m a fan!
.
Bright ruby colour, The nose has a combination of floral and red berry notes with an engaging earthy-spicy character. It has a wonderful concentration and depth of blackberry fruit on the palate, refined tannins, through to a long finish. Burgundian elegance.

Wine Review: Franck Millet Sancerre Blanc

Tasting Notes:

This nervy wine comes from Bué, one of the top villages of Sancerre, which is grown in limestone-clay soil and reflects the unique terroir of the region.

Powerful nose with lots of aromatic qualities developing over a period of time. Tangy with mineral texture, and offering lime flavors, displaying a surprising suppleness and roundness. Very long on the palate.

This wine makes an excellent aperitif and pairs beautifully with oily seafood dishes and cheeses.

Wine Review: Champagne Gosset Grand Reserve Brut NV

The “Grande Reserve” is a mix of three vintages, with a blend of the three standard grape varieties: Chardonnay 45%, Pinot Noir 45%, and Pinot Meunier.

Vineyard Sources: Aÿ, Bouzy, Ambonnay, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Villers-Marmery

The wine does not go through a malolactic fermentation, which is typical of the house style.

Tasting Notes

This cuvée sums up the Gosset style in its decisive texture and crisp with firm acidity; it shows enticing maturity; it’s well-balance and expressive; great fruitiness and mineral tension.
This is a Champagne to drink now.

Wine Review: Chateau Mouton Rothschild 1989

Wine Review: Chateau Mouton Rothschild 1989
First Growth. Premier Grand Cru Classe in 1973

Special Occasion – celebrating a family member’s one-year anniversary. It’s a lovely Pauillac that has reached its plateau of maturity; notably dark ruby in colour; It has an engaging cedar and tobacco bouquet with hints of mint; not much fruit concentration; the palate follows suit – is medium-bodied and continues the aromatic theme of cedar and tobacco; demonstrates great persistence; well-defined – ‘old school’.

Drink now – 2030.

Tasted June 23, 2018.
