Pernod Ricard UK Launches New Wine Brand “Greasy Fingers”

Pernod Ricard UK Launches New Wine Brand “Greasy Fingers”

Pernod Ricard UK is disrupting the wine category with the launch of a new wine range “Greasy Fingers” which challenges traditional boundaries of wine and food pairings by ripping up the rule book and delivering two, bold wines, expertly crafted to cut through greasy food and provide the perfect match for gourmet fast food.

Greasy Fingers is a wine for moments of pure indulgence with friends and the brand is launching two varieties within its range. First up is Greasy Fingers Luscious Red 2022, a medium-bodied, fruit-forward blend of Shiraz and Grenache, with luscious cherry and strawberry flavours, as well as soft, approachable tannins. Second in the line-up is Greasy Fingers Big Buttery Chardonnay 2022, which boasts refreshing flavours of peach, vanilla, and cinnamon spice with a buttery mouthfeel.

Lucy Bearman, wine and champagne portfolio director at Pernod Ricard UK, said: “The wine category is ripe for disruption and Greasy Fingers goes back to the heartland of wine by pairing it with food in a way that breaks the traditional conventions of the category”.

She further added: “We believe passionately in a wine and food match made in heaven, but it doesn’t need to come with a white tablecloth and a qualification. This simple yet hugely effective pairing is about whipping up some burgers for friends to eat together at the weekend or indulging in a mid-week takeaway and putting your feet up, whilst enjoying a bold and unpretentious glass of wine.”

Launching in Sainsbury’s, Morrisons and Asda from this month with a £10 RRP, the brand will also be going live on Amazon and Ocado later this year. The launch comes at a time when Pernod Ricard UK has driven positive value share results in the Off-Trade for its top three wine brands, Campo Viejo, Brancott Estate and Stoneleigh, with all three brands delivering value share growth in the last 12 weeks. Greasy Fingers complements the wider Pernod Ricard UK wine portfolio with a disruptive proposition that aims to re-engage and recruit a young adult shopper into the category at a time when the number of wine drinkers under the age of 34 has been reduced.

PERNOD RICARD OFFERS FREE “SUSTAINABLE” ONLINE BARTENDING COURSE

Pernod Ricard has just announced the launch of its online sustainable and responsible bartending training modules, targeting bar professionals.

The Covid-19 crisis has hit the hospitality industry hard. French drinks giant Pernod Ricard predicts solidarity, sustainability and responsibility will be paramount in future, and as such, the company has partnered with online training providers UNITAR and EdApp to create free bartending online courses on green and responsible practices, available worldwide.

Pernod Ricard’s in-house training group Pernod Ricard University has developed the courses in partnership with anti-waste bartending organizations TrashTiki and the Sustainable Restaurant Association. The curriculum covers all aspects of sustainability and responsibility – from fresh ingredient use and responsible serving of alcoholic beverages to waste management – directly aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It is based on four pillars (ingredients, service, bar and staff) and assesses each through the 5Rs model: Rethink, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Respect.

There is also a stand-alone course dedicated to alcohol and responsible drinking. This course focuses on what alcohol is, differentiates myths from facts, and equips users with knowledge to encourage responsible drinking.

Vanessa Wright, Vice President of sustainability and responsibility at Pernod Ricard, commented: “As Créateurs de Convivialité, we strongly believe in sharing with others and supporting communities. During the Covid-19 crisis, among other initiatives, our Group has been supporting the bartending community through various projects including Jameson’s partnership with the US Bartenders’ Guild, Pernod Ricard South Africa’s donation to local hospitality workers and the J’aime mon Bistrot programme in France.

“Bartenders, and the hospitality industry more broadly, have always been very important partners, as well as drivers of innovation – perfectly placed at the forefront of our changing world, embedding sustainable and responsible practices and enabling others to do the same. In preparing for the future, this online training module is another milestone of our joint journey towards the bar world of tomorrow.”

“PORN STAR MARTINI” NAMED UK’S FAVOURITE COCKTAIL

Knocking the minty Mojito off its perch, the cheekily titled Porn Star Martini is now the most popular cocktail in the UK, according to recent research by CGA Strategy. Porn Star Martini is now the most ordered cocktail in UK restaurants, bars and pubs.

Viewed as a modern classic, Porn Star Martini is made with vanilla vodka, fresh passion fruit, passion fruit liqueur and lime juice, and is served with a shot of Champagne on the side.

Pernod Ricard revealed that Absolut Vanilla brand is now the number one flavoured vodka in the UK on-trade, a spokesperson states “We have been tracking this fantastic cocktail’s rise in popularity and are delighted it has finally been given the crown it deserves. Consumers are increasingly looking for experiences and the Porn Star Martini delivers this because of the theatre the serve provides”

“We have recently seen just how loved this drink is via our Porn Star Martini Townhouse at London Cocktail week, which welcomed over 900 consumers,” said Adam Boita, head of marketing for Pernod Ricard UK.

The cocktail was created in 2002 by bartender and LAB bar founder Douglas Ankrah at The Townhouse bar in Knightsbridge. Ankrah first christened the cocktail Maverick Martini, in a hat tip to a dodgy club in Cape Town, but changed the name to Porn Star Martini.

“I called it the Porn Star Martini because I thought it was something that a porn star would drink. It’s pure indulgence, sexy, fun and evocative,” Ankrah told The Buyer in a recent interview.
