Judging for the Canadian Marketing Awards 2023 “Engagement Discipline”

I’m very proud and thrilled to have been selected by the Canadian Marketing Association this year to participate as a judge for the “CMA Awards 2023 “in the Engagement Discipline!

I’ve finished evaluating and assessing campaigns from across the Country, and found some creative, bold, and outstanding examples of “Engagement!”

What is Engagement?

Engagement is about the dialogue between brands and people – B2B, B2C, partners, or employees. To manage long-term relationships (quarterly or annually) or lifetime value-driven (as opposed to one-off tactics), the dialogue can use personalization, experiential techniques, content driven, or target a community.

Social media is used to spark continued exposure (earned media, impressions, and interactions) with:

  • current news items
  • public interest topics
  • influencer marketing
  • product promotions or organizational updates

The “2022 World’s Best Vineyards” revealed last night

World’s Best Vineyards has revealed this year’s top wine destinations for 2022 at an event held last night in Argentina’s wine capital, Mendoza. The annual list which highlights the world’s finest and most diverse vineyards across the globe announced the Top 50 with the innovative Antinori nel Chianti Classico in Tuscany, Italy, topping the list for the first time. Italy also celebrated the highest climber accolade with sparkling wine producer Ferrari Trento moving 50 places up the list to 11.

Spain’s Bodegas de los Herederos del Marqués de Riscal with its longstanding history and breathtaking architecture took second place for two years in a row, whilst Chilean vineyards, Montes and VIK Winery, achieved third and fourth place. Montes also took continent winner for South America, with Robert Mondavi Winery which is described as the ‘soul of Napa Valley’ topping North America. The best in Africa was revealed as Creation in South Africa, whilst Henschke in Australia topped the list with the stunning winery in the Eden Valley. France and Portugal had the highest overall split of vineyards with each taking 11 spots on this year’s Top 100 list.

The 2022 list includes more countries than ever before with 20 from all six continents being featured. It also includes exciting first-time entrants from India, Bulgaria and Greece highlighting the recent growth in the industry. There were more English entries than ever before with Balfour Winery (78), Gusbourne (85) and Nyetimber (93) joining Ridgeview at number 73.

This year’s host, Zuccardi Valle de Uco has been promoted to the World’s Best Vineyard’s Hall of Fame after coming top of the list three years in a row. Going forward the new category will be formed of vineyards that top the annual vote of the World’s 50 Best Vineyards and are therefore no longer eligible to be voted for on new editions of the list.

The World’s 50 Best Bars returns LIVE December 2021!

William Reed Business Media has just announced that The World’s 50 Best Bars, sponsored by Perrier, will be unveiled as part of a live awards ceremony on Tuesday, 7 December 2021, at London’s Roundhouse.

Returning to an in-person event after a virtual event in 2020, The World’s 50 Best Bars 2021 will recognize and celebrate the resilience and achievements of the sector in the last year and a half.

The 2021 ranking will be unveiled in a ceremony that will form part of a two-day event program, and the list will be based on members of The World’s 50 Best Bars Academy’s bar experiences across a voting period between March 2020 to September 2021.

In 2020, 50 Best made several changes to its Academy, which now includes more than 540 anonymous industry experts and is 50/50 gender balanced. There are 23 Academy Chairs across 23 geographic regions, and the voting process and results are independently adjudicated by Deloitte to ensure authenticity. The 2021 voting requirements have been amended to reflect the travel restrictions imposed by the pandemic.

Mark Sansom, content editor for The World’s 50 Best Bars, says: “We are thrilled that The World’s 50 Best Bars ceremony is returning to London this year for an in-person event, allowing the bar community to reunite once again after being starved of vital international face-to-face interaction. Championing great bars is more important than ever before and we hope this event and list inspires people around the world to return to their beloved bars, discover new favorites and seek out fresh adventures.”

There will also be three special award announcements in the weeks running up to the ceremony:

  • 18th November – Michter’s Art of Hospitality. This award is voted for by all members of The World’s 50 Best Bars Academy, who are asked to name the bar where they received the single best hospitality experience during the voting period;
  • 25th November – Altos Bartenders’ Bartender. This award is voted for by the bartenders behind those bars on this year’s list, who are asked to name one peer who has done more to further the craft of bartending than any other, with reference to their work throughout the pandemic; and
  • 2nd December – The extended 51-100 list. Five days before the virtual awards ceremony, 50 Best will reveal those bars ranked between 51st and 100th in the world on its website and social media channels.

A new award has also been announced for 2021: the Siete Misterios Best Cocktail Menu, which is designed to reward innovation, design, drinks craft and idea communication. The award is open to all bars across the globe and will involve the submission of a current menu and supporting materials. Details on how to enter will be announced on The World’s 50 Best Bars website and social channels in the coming weeks.

Errazuriz Wine Photographer of the Year Announced

Oscar Oliveras has won the prestigious “Errazuriz Wine Photographer of the Year” award for “Grape View” which is a stunning image of Semillon grapes being gathered in Saussignac, France. The Spanish photographer captured this image on the first day of the harvest at Château des Ganfard.

The winner of the “Errázuriz Wine Photographer of the Year Places” is Lana Svitankova with “The Vanishing Craft.”

50 BEST UNVEILS 50 NEXT, A GLOBAL LIST OF YOUNG PEOPLE SHAPING THE FUTURE OF GASTRONOMY

The organization behind The World’s 50 Best Restaurants and The World’s 50 Best Bars has today unveiled the first edition of 50 Next, a list of young people shaping the future of gastronomy. Designed to inspire, empower and connect the next generation of leaders, 50 Next celebrates people aged 35 and under from across the wider food and drink scene, from producers and educators to tech creators and activists. This year’s virtual announcement will be followed in 2022 with a live event in the region of Biscay, in the Basque Country of Spain, the official Host Destination Partner to 50 Next, once travel restrictions are eased.

A list but not a ranking, 50 Next specifically celebrates people, complementing the annual rankings of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants and Bars. It was formed through robust research and analysis by 50 Next and the internationally renowned Basque Culinary Center, following an overwhelming response to open calls for applications and nominations and a proactive scouting for candidates.

The inaugural list aims to represent the diversity of the global gastronomic scene, featuring people from 34 different countries across six continents. Delving into the wider meaning of gastronomy, 50 Next is divided into seven industry-led categories: Gamechanging Producers; Tech Disruptors; Empowering Educators; Entrepreneurial Creatives; Science Innovators; Hospitality Pioneers (supported by S.Pellegrino Young Chef Academy) and Trailblazing Activists. Each category is unranked and comprises a broad spectrum of professions, with those on the list recognized for their overall contribution to the gastronomic ecosystem, as well as their ongoing potential to drive significant positive change.

The class of 2021 includes ground-breaking Australian fish butcher Josh Niland, progressive agriculture advocate Cherrie Atilano from the Philippines, Ghanaian tech innovator Isaac Sesi, Mexican indigenous pioneer Claudia Albertina Ruiz and Jhannel Tomlinson, a Jamaican climate change champion who empowers women through coffee. The youngest on the list is 20-year-old Basque medical student Maitane Alonso Monasterio, who has invented a machine to preserve food.

Highlights from the list include:

  • Inaugural 50 Next list features people from 34 countries across six continents, identified as next-generation leaders in food and drink;
  • Seven categories recognize those working across gastronomy in production, tech, education, creative industries, science, hospitality and activism;
  • Unranked list includes 24 women, 19 men and seven groups, with individuals ranging in age from 20 to 35;
  • 700 candidates were considered from a pool of applications, nominations and talent directly scouted by the Basque Culinary Center, 50 Next’s Academic Partner;
  • Live 50 Next event to follow in Bilbao in the region of Biscay, in the Basque Country of Spain, in early 2022.

As the first global list of its kind, 50 Next includes five people based in Africa, six in Asia, one in the Caribbean, 18 in Europe, seven in Latin America, two in the Middle East, three in Australasia and eight in the USA. While there are 29 countries of residence featured, there are 34 countries of origin, owing to the fact that many young innovators have left their home countries to settle in tech, business or educational hubs such as the UK and US.
